I think this going to be my next read. I went for a little walk yesterday evening and ducked into New Haven's Atticus Bookstore. I stumbled upon this book -- the remarkable story of Dr. John Francis. He talks about his 22 years of walking and his 17 years of silence as a reaction to a tremendous oil spill he witnessed in the San Francisco Bay in 1971 and the subsequent journey it inspired.
I often find myself wondering how to move beyond merely learning how to function in the world and actually be in it and of it in a way that is generous, peaceful, and useful. Dr. Francis suggests that we must all become activists -- what would your cause be?
