When I think of some of the most pleasurable things in life...I often think of freshly, baked bread.  When I was little, I remember coming home to the smell of my grandmother's loaves wafting through the air knowing that moments later I would be having a warm, buttered slice.  She never seemed to need a recipe; always blending a smidge of this and a dash of that.  Perhaps that's why baking has always seemed a bit like pulling a rabbit out of a hat - my grandmother's sleight of hand made it all seem effortless, and a bit magical.
So here's the thing:  I want to learn how to make bread.  I want my house to smell like heaven.  I want to knead, pound, flour, and salt dough.  I want to learn the art of making something that has fed people since basically the beginning of time.  Most of all, I'd like to learn a new process.  Chad Robertson of San Francisco's famed Tartine has sold me on the craft of breadmaking and how the beauty of a loaf emerges from the patience and art of its preparation...I'm mostly excited to eat it, though :-)
So, here's my first Wandering Bark giveaway ever:
The first person to comment on this post will receive my first loaf - I'm dead serious.

I love bread, and I love this blog!
