DAY 1: The Ball has Dropped

So, it's a wildly wonderful and equally intimidating prospect to imagine that other people might be reading these thoughts.

And, with that being out in the open, I write my first entry.

Do blogs need thesis statements? I've been thinking about starting one for nearly a month now and the one reason I haven't is because I thought it might need a specific purpose. For example, "I'm going to try all of Julia Child's recipes, blog about it and then have a large commercial film made about my blogging and cooking, starring Meryl Streep." I can't pretend that this is that. I also feel weirdly about scripting catatonic musings on life, or whining... so, I won't be doing either of those things...in public.

With the advent of the new year, and the commencement of my first year out of school

(tethered to debt and excited about the future), why not write about some new 'discoveries' ? I would imagine that there are very few moments in life where a transition is so enormous that things are almost entirely new: birth, getting out of school for the first time, marriage, having babies, death.... "ish"... I know life isn't this compartmentalized. With that...

Discovery 1: Last night was the first night I ever celebrated New Year's Eve in my apartment. It's perched at the top of an impressively high six-floor walkup. As a result, I have beautiful light in the morning and a voyeurs dream-view of the top-floor apartments across the street. The party was hopping in one particular apartment across the way. Salsa music was pouring out of their window into mine and you could see couples partner dancing through the window. It was the perfect subject for an Edward Hopper painting or a prequel to 'Rear Window'. Discovery 1 is that, if their music is loud enough, you can dance without having to turn on your own.
